Herbs for Menopause & Osteoporosis

Herbs for Menopause & Osteoporosis

5 cpd points

Learn about menopause and how herbs can help us as our body adapts to these changes.

Shop-bought herbal remedies for menopause are widely-available (e.g. black cohosh, agnus-castus) but it can be very hit-or-miss whether or not they are of any help. In fact, sometimes they can make symptoms worse by pushing the hormones even further into imbalance. It is key to understand what different symptoms can mean, which herbs are more suitable to try to ease them, how to make or source a proper strength herbal tonic, what a proper and appropriate dosage is, which methods of taking herbs are better etc. Getting these factors right is far more likely to help and support women as their body grows through these changes.

In this practical class we will discover herbs with a hormonal action, natural approaches to managing hot flushes, night sweats, dryness of the skin etc. We will learn to make our own herbal tonics, as well as trying proper professional-strength herbal medicinces (as available from many herbal medicine clinics). We will also learn about, make and try nourishing tonics to help to strengthen our bones.

Menopause can bring emotional and mental changes too. We will learn about and make herbal tonics and treatments to help us manage feelings such as uncertainty, disorientation, anxiety, forgetfulness etc.
