Module 1 – Introduction 

  • How does the body move?
  • Introduction to ‘functional movement’ principles
  • Postural/movement analysis
  • Blending tensegrity and myofascial anatomy into a usable model
  • Touch – the DASIE model – ‘connected fascial stroke’

Module 2 – Lower Limb 1

  • Anatomy of the foot and ankle
  • ‘Essential Events’ – functional assessment of the calcaneus, talus, mid-foot and toe extension
  • Treatment methods for each ‘essential event’ – fascial release, AFR, NMT, MET
  • Working in standing

Module 3 – Lower Limb 2

  • Anatomy of the thigh, hip and pelvis
  • How do the foot to the hip relate?
  • ‘Essential Events’ of the hip – how to assess the hip in each angle
  • Treatment methods for each ‘essential event’ – fascial release, AFR, NMT, MET
  • SIJ Joint – mechanics and assessment
  • Working in four-point kneeling & standing
  • How to use positioning to work with different muscle groups

Module 4 – Trunk

  • Anatomy of the abdominals, ribs and intercostals including the erector spinae, quadratus lumborum and psoas
  • Relating the trunk to the pelvis and shoulder girdles
  • Rib work – costotransverse and costovertebral joints in side-lying and standing
  • Opening the breath
  • Treatment methods for each ‘essential event’ – fascial release, AFR, NMT, MET

Module 5 – Spine

  • Anatomy of the spine – vertebrae and deep spinal muscles
  • Assessment of spinal movement
  • Dealing with rotation of the spine
  • Working in side-lying, standing and kneeling

Module 6 – Arms

There is no formal examination at the end of the course and therefore no extra exam fees. You will be assessed as part of a continual process. You will not be required to submit a portfolio of case studies. There will however be homework and research assignments. For you to gain maximum benefit from this course the training will require you to work, but it will be fun, it will be fully supported and it will be effective.

Who are we?

James Earls

We are so fortunate and excited to be hosting the brilliant James Earls here at MSCM. James is an acclaimed author, lecturer and bodyworker specialising in Myofascial Release and Structural Integration.

Increasing the understanding and practice of manual therapy has been a passion of James’ since he first started practicing bodywork over 25 years ago. Throughout his career James has travelled widely to learn from the best educators in his field. James worked alongside Tom Myers to co-author “Fascial Release for Structural Balance”, a definitive guide to the assessment and manipulation of fascial patterns. James’ vision of what manual therapy could look like in the 21st century led to the founding of Anatomy Trains UK and Ultimate Massage Solutions in the early 2000’s.

James is now concentrating on finding new approaches to understanding how to apply movement and myofascial principles to bodywork.

Having helped build the reputation of Anatomy Trains for Tom Myers through the UK, Europe and worldwide, James now teaches a range of his own courses and is a regular lecturer at conferences and workshops around the globe. Renowned for his relaxed and humorous style, James is a popular presenter whose subject is applicable for a wide-ranging audience that includes osteopaths, physiotherapists, massage therapists and movement therapists.

James has collaborated with some of the top researchers in bodywork and fascial theory and is has been involved in a number of projects involving research into fascia, movement and treatment modalities. James’ blend of movement and fascial understanding led to the publication of his well-received “Born to Walk”, an introduction to the interconnected mechanics of the body.


Owen Lewis

A highly experienced and educated clinician Owen is enthusiastic and dedication in the pursuit of applied knowledge. As both educator and clinician Owen is expanding upon the clinical reality and application of the latest ideas and theories. In his clinic, in the East of England, he takes a polymath approach to all aspects of bodywork. He works with a wide variety of patients that regularly include professional athletes, dancers and musicians.  

His education includes degrees at Undergraduate, Masters and Postgraduate level as well as a wealth of professional qualifications. He has been taught by some of the leading pioneers including Thomas Myers, Robert Schleip, David Tiberio and Diane Lee.

When not in his clinic he can be found teaching around the world. His teaching offers a unique blend of art and science. Demonstrating his passion for anatomy, biomechanics, sport, art and philosophy. Being taught by Owen is an experience of simplicity within the complex. Seeds of knowledge dropped and watered by his wealth of clinical relevance.
